Finding the Joy in Giving
John’s first leukemia diagnosis came in 1987, followed by a transplant in 1988. He relapsed and needed a second transplant in 2000.

Recalling the difficulty he had experienced finding other recipients to share information and support, he made a promise: “I made a commitment to the Lord that if I ever got through this, I would help as many people as I could.” As soon as he was up to it, John made good on his promise. And he’s been volunteering ever since.

Support through social media: Kristin's experience

Kristin, transplant recipient and avid social media user
Kristin received a transplant in January of 2009 after being diagnosed with Hodgkin lymphoma. While family and friends provided a wonderful support system during her treatment and recovery, she’s benefited from another type of support through social media—and has made lifelong friends in the process. Today, Kristin stays connected to transplant information and support through Facebook and a variety of e-communities.
